Al ‘Illah is an important concept in Ushul Nahwi that refers to the rationale or basis underlying the establishment of Arabic grammatical rules. It demonstrates that grammatical rules are not merely understood as fixed regulations but can also be examined through reasoning based on linguistic phenomena. This study aims to examine the concept of al ‘illah in Ushul Nahwi and its relevance to Arabic grammar learning. This research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from primary sources consisting of classical works on Ushul Nahwi and secondary sources including relevant books and scholarly articles. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that al ‘illah has an important position in grammatical reasoning, particularly in explaining the basis of grammatical rules, supporting the application of qiyās, and relating linguistic phenomena to established grammatical principles. The study also identifies various forms and issues concerning the validity and application of al-‘illah. In the context of higher education, al-‘illah is relevant to Arabic grammar learning because it can help students understand the rationale underlying grammatical rules and develop a more conceptual and analytical understanding of Arabic sentence structures.
